Personal Experiences
My grandfather’s experience with the language barrier in healthcare inspired me to create TranslateRx. At 77, speaking little to no English, he struggles to communicate during doctor visits, especially with his Parkinson’s Disease diagnosis. I saw his confusion and frustration firsthand as he tried to express his symptoms and understand his treatment plan. While hospitals offer interpreters, they’re not always available when he needs them, leaving him to navigate complex medical discussions on his own. Witnessing his challenges made me realize how many others face similar barriers, and I wanted to create a solution to help bridge that gap. TranslateRx became our way of ensuring that patients like my grandfather feel heard, understood, and empowered during one of the most vulnerable moments in their lives.
